Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority buys up various bankrupt commuter rail lines.

They include the Boston & Maine Railroad, the New Haven Railroad, and the New York Central Railroad. The system eventually grows to some 400 miles with lines reaching to Lowell, Worcester, Providence, and Plymouth.
